Green Cross Australia could not
accomplish as much as it does without the hard work of a core group
of volunteers.

Sue LyonsFinancial Controller
Sue Lyons is our Financial Controller
After completing her Bachelor degree with distinction in 1987,
Sue was invited to join the global firm of Arthur Andersen as a
graduate accountant.
For 15 years at Arthur Andersen, Sue specialised in taxation
consulting and compliance. Prior to the merger of the firm
with Ernst & Young in 2002, she held the position of Principal
and was second to the National Head of the Private Client Services
Practice in Australia. Sue continued to work for the merged
firm of Ernst & Young in Brisbane and for 4 years she lead the
Human Capital practice in Brisbane, providing taxation and
accounting advice to high net worth individuals and private client
groups.
In 2007, she left the firm to operate a private consulting
business, providing advice on accounting and taxation matters, and
to take up the part-time position as Financial Controller of Green
Cross Australia.
Sue is a member of CPA Australia since 1991 and is a Fellow of the
Taxation Institute of Australia.
Ariel LiebmanSolar expert - Volunteer
Ariel is an expert research volunteer.
Dr. Ariel Liebman is senior research fellow and Director of
Carbon Programs at the Monash Faculty of Information Technology.
Ariel is an energy markets specialist with experience across all
aspects of the electricity supply chain. His experience includes
deregulated power markets, network regulation, smart-grids, and
commercial retail operations. Ariel's core interest and specialist
is modeling and simulation of electricity systems, and markets
using high performance computing platforms such as computing
clouds. Ariel holds a PhD in Physics (Quantum Optics) from the
University of Queensland and a Masters in Physics from Auckland
University. He has published on various aspects of the electricity
industry including impacts of emission trading, real-options
investment, and wholesale price forecasting.
Bringing a unique mix of research and commercial experience Dr.
Liebman has advised energy utilities across Australia including
TRUenergy/EnergyAustralia, United Energy, ERM Power, Ergon Energy,
and others. He has collaborated with and secured research funding
from the CSIRO's Energy Transformed Flagship, AGL Energy, and
Energy Exemplar.
Dr. Liebman is a member of the Smart Grids Australia R&D
leaders working group. He has presented at academic and industry
conferences over many years on issues ranging from portfolio risk
management to carbon permit pricing.
Courtney JohnstonDigital Communications Volunteer
Courtney is a digital communications volunteer.
Courtney is a marketing and communications professional who has
worked with Green Cross since 2013. She holds a Bachelor of Mass
Communications and is thrilled to combine her enthusiasm for
sustainability and digital communications to support Green Cross
Australia projects.
Courtney has previously worked both client side and within
creative agencies.
Jennifer Burley Student and Green Cross Australia Ambassador
Skills: Student at University of Queensland - Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) and Arts (International Relations and Economics)
Interests: Travel, the outdoors, environmental issues, photography, yoga, architecture, new foods.
Passions: Environmental and development economics, environmental politics and policy, environmental markets and biophysics.
Making a difference: Believes that a holistic and values based approach to environmental issues to proactively address the root causes of environmental degradation, rather than reactively bandaging the symptoms.
Hugh JorgensenStudent and Roaming International Green Cross Ambassador

Interests: Watching rugby,

Making a difference: Presented the
final report from the National People's Assembly on Climate
Refugees to the 14th Annual Conference of Parties, hosted by the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Poznan,
Poland.
Kate Cranney Student and Queensland Green Cross Australia Ambassador
Skills: Bachelor of Law and Science (Environment) at Griffith University.
Interests: Bushwalking, tree-climbing, running, reading, yoga, volunteering and painting.
Passions: Proactive development of environmental awareness and environmental issues.
Making a difference: Growing up on an organic sheep and cattle property bordering Bendidee National Park in Goondiwindi (Southern Queensland). Continuing to develop the power of shifting values and the potential of youth involvement.
Jeff CallaghanGreen Cross Australia Volunteer
Jeff Callaghan is the retired Bureau of Meteorology forecaster
in Queensland. He has played an instrumental role in assisting with
our disaster resilience programs since 2011, including development
of the 'Harden Up - Protecting Queensland' program, the Townsville
storm surge simulation and background research around the history
of major weather events around different parts of Australia. We
cherish his contribution to our projects.
Phil WatsonWitness King Tides Volunteer
Phil Watson is the Principal Coastal Scientist of NSW, and has
played an instrumental role in developing and scaling the Witness
King Tides community photography project which educates and engages
communities around coastal Australia about the challenges
associated with sea level rise. We are grateful for his vision and
enthusiasm for this work.
Linda DreghornPast Company Secretary
Linda has recently retired as our Company Secretary, a role she
held since Green Cross Australia was formed in 2006.
We are forever grateful for her support of the organisation
since its inception.
We wish Linda well in all her future endeavours and maintain a
close connection to Linda for any past information, given her
wealth of knowledge on the organisation through its years of
operations.
Miranda MasonEnvironmental Education Leader
With a background in Education, Government, Community relations
and creative arts, Miranda is a dynamic teacher who has had a
multitude of experiences which have contributed to her future
focused and collaborative style. She is passionate about making
education engaging, relevant and purposeful by utlising technology
in order to develop flexible, adaptive thinkers who are prepared to
meet the challenges of their time.
Miranda wrote the first edition of Green Lane Diary and remains
actively involved in our environmental education programs.
Miranda brings her vibrant approach to Green Cross
Australia. She volunteers for the Australian Association for
Environmental Education and encourages student empowerment and
activism as a vehicle for understanding environmental change.
Miranda has has consulted for the Brisbane Ideas Festival, Brisbane
City Council and Brisbane Writers Festival. She is the author of
several environmental education reference materials including
"Groovy Green Ideas" (Ready-Ed publications).
Miranda is a part time primary school teacher at Milton State
School. Her energy is matched only by her passion for cheese and
trees!
Skye BowieCompany Secretary
Skye Bowie was
appointed as Company Secretary to the Green Cross Australia on 6
November 2019.
She has more than 15 years' experience in legal practice,
financial services and governance and has provided legal,
regulatory and corporate advice within Australia and
Europe. Skye currently works as a
senior legal and governance advisor with QSuper.
Skye holds a Bachelor of Laws/Arts
(Economics) from the University of Queensland, Graduate Diploma in
Legal Practice, Graduate Diploma Applied Corporate
Governance (AGIA, ACIS) and a Diploma of
Financial Planning as well as a Certificate in Animal Welfare from
the University of Edinburgh.
Skye is a strong advocate for new
models of environmental social governance (ESG) and keen to inspire
Australians to embrace sustainable living.
