After months of hard work learning all about the solar industry
in both Australia and overseas, we finally launched our latest
program: every
rooftop - and boy were we excited!
More than 80 guests accepted our invitation to join us for this
momentous occasion on March 27, with the launch celebrated on
the Wesley Mission rooftop terrace - overlooking the
rooftops of Brisbane City as the sun set. Green Cross Australia CEO
Mara Bún, Ingenero CEO
Steve McRae and Professor John Bell from QUT each took their
turn to express their excitement about this innovative program of
solar leasing.
Opening speaker Mara Bún charmed, challenged and entertained the
crowd. Mara shared her delight with Green Cross Australia's new
partnership with solar industry experts Ingenero, to deliver the
every rooftop program.
"This is an innovation for Australia and we're really excited
about what this will mean for the future of our energy use," Ms Bún
said.
"Every rooftop will make it so easy for Australians
to go solar, allowing more people to become aware of just how
important solar energy is to our mix.
"We're thrilled to be partnering with trusted solar energy experts
Ingenero to deliver solar to more Australian households and
businesses."
Steve McRae shared fascinating insights about the future of the
residential and SME solar market in Australia and Professor Bell
applauded the program as a great initiative to better understand
the impact of solar energy on our grid.
The website everyrooftop.org, built by
the creative team at Standing By
Co and promotional
video, produced by design-led motion graphics studio Breeder were a hit with the
audience. Every Rooftop hero 'John' reading a
'Playbird' magazine was a crowd favourite, with John shown relaxing
with piece of mind that going solar was a piece of cake.
Channel 7 Queensland weather presenter John Schluter's new Community Service
Announcement supporting Every Rooftop also brought
smiles to faces in the crowd, as the trusted TV personality spreads
our message to everyday Australians.
It was great to see so many Brisbane solar enthusiasts celebrate
the launch, including guests from Ergon Energy, ARUP, Low Carbon
Australia, City Smart, Engineers Australia, Griffith University,
University of Queensland, QUT and many more. Check out our
Facebook page for photos of the event.
A special shout out to Rosemary from the Wesley Mission
and Jamie from Sage on Ann for providing the gorgeous venue
and delicious catering.
What a great night we had. Thanks everybody for coming along and
making it so special!
Here are some impressions from our guests:
"What a great program - well done Green Cross, and
Ingenero. If every rooftop in Australia had an average size
PV generator, households could provide almost 140% of current
residential energy demand. That's almost one third of
the energy generated going into the grid. Imagine
rolling out a serious energy efficiency program on top of
that…Wow."
David A Hood AM. National President (2012), Engineers
Australia
"An excellent launch of an innovative collaboration by Green
Cross."
Kathy Mac Dermott, Executive Director at the Property
Council of Australia (Qld Division)
"Collaborative initiatives such as every rooftop are vital
if we are to transition to a renewable energy future where ALL
members of society have an opportunity to reduce their electricity
costs and emissions. In other words, at the moment only those who
can afford to put on a system are reaping the benefits of a
reduction in electricity costs. This initiative opens it up to
those who don't have the financial means. The launch event was
great."
