MEDIA ALERT | ACT FIRST LAUNCH

Green Cross Australia helps ACT residents prepare for severe weather events

[4 November 2013]

Green Cross Australia invites you to the launch of a critical new online resource which will help ACT residents prepare for severe weather events.

Please join Green Cross Australia CEO Mara Bun, the Hon Greg Hunt MP, Rural Fire Service Chief Officer Stark, ACT State Emergency Services Chief Officer Graham and Head of Government and External Affairs at Property Council, Caryn Kakas for the official unveiling.

WHAT: ACT First launch
WHERE: Canberra's City Walk (at the fountain)
Wet weather location:  ESA Media Room -9 Amberley Ave, Majura ACT
WHEN: 10am, Wednesday 6 November

Following the launch, Green Cross Australia along with a team of volunteers from State Emergency Services will engage members of the public at City Walk from 11am - 2pm. Manned with iPads and laptops, volunteers will guide individuals through the ACT First site and help them create their custom preparedness tips.

The ACT has a history of severe weather events including bushfires, heatwaves, floods, severe storms and earthquakes. With population density increasing and the severity and frequency of weather events continuing to grow, it's vital that the ACT community is aware of their risks and prepare in order to be more resilient.

ACT First has been developed by Green Cross Australia with funding from the Natural Disaster Resilience Program through the Attorney-General's Department and the ACT Government. Partners include the ACT Government's Emergency Services Agency, Australian National University and CSIRO.
