Green Building Council of Australia: Lend Lease supports green leaders of tomorrow

As a leader in sustainability, Lend Lease showed its support for Green Cross Australia's 2010 Green Lane Diary program awards ceremony which recognises the green leaders of tomorrow.

Hosted by Queensland Education Minister, Geoff Wilson at the Queensland Museum, the awards recognise Queensland schools that have participated in sustainable initiatives within their schools or local communities.

Lend Lease's Chief Executive Officer of Australia, Rod Leaver, said the group was delighted to support the awards as they recognise the importance of educating future generations about the impact of climate change.

"Ultimately, property development is not just about constructing buildings, it's about creating places for people to work and live that will be a positive legacy for future generations.

"Buildings are responsible for more than a third of the world's greenhouse gas emissions so, as an international property company, we feel it's critical that we take a leadership position in shaping sustainable communities of the future," Mr Leaver continued.

Awards were issued under three categories which included the Outstanding Class Achievement Award for schools that instigated sustainable programs in their schools or local communities; 2010 Class Community Action Award for schools that supported clean water programs in underdeveloped countries; and the Outstanding Individual Achievement Award.

"I congratulate the winners and all participants of the Green Lane Diary project who have shown a real commitment and passion in helping to shift environmental attitudes towards a more sustainable future," said Mr Leaver.
